Dream Duet: Abby Suriya and Mpongo Love

This is women's history month and I want to focus on Congolese women singers that they have yet to sing together or the ones that should have sung together. I got two Congolese ladies that I selected for you guys for today.

The subjects today are Abby Suriya and the late Mpongo Love. The latter is mother to Sandra Mpongo who is also a singer herself. I actually think if Mpongo had lived longer, I believed that she would have sung with a woman like Abby Suriya. That would have the good idea of them singing together. These two female singers are like opposites attract but it is perfect for us. Abby Suriya is a romantic singer but more expressive in her tone. Mpongo Love is also a romantic singer but softer in her tone. This would be a great musical match. Mpongo's voice a female version of Ntesa in a sense where her voice is very jolly. Abby Suriya's voice is a female version of combinations of Shimita, Solo Sita and Carlyto whom she sang with in the past.

One reason that they would have and should have sung together would because they both worked with former soccer legend Mayaula Mayoni. They had the luxuries to work with him. Abby appeared on Mayaula Mayoni's Ousmane Bakyoko and Bikini. Mpongo got her name going on Mayoni's song Ndaya which she sang with saxophonist Empompo Loway.

Speaking on Ndaya. That would be one of the songs that would have been perfect for Abby Suriya and Mpongo Love. Mpongo singing high with Abby singing low. There is another song that would have been perfect. It is also from Mayaula Mayoni. The song he did for Tshala Muana. It is called Nasi Mobali.

Here is the songs

NDAYA

NASI NABALI

If they had sung together, it would have good for Congolese music fans who love female singers more.

Dream Trio: Josky Kiambukuta, Madilu System and Mayaula Mayoni

I have been thinking about one great person. Madilu System.

Madilu System was a incredible talent and he had ability to impress people with his very husky voice. His husky voice was able to pass cross people's minds. His one liner was in big line with his success.

Madilu loved singing with Josky the most when he was in OK Jazz. By 1983, we had the trio of Josky, Madilu and Ntesa. They would sing together until 1986 and the last time that they sang together was in 1987. Actually the last time that they would sing together was in 1989 but 1987 as last time as a trio.

Josky was also so amazing with Mayaula Mayoni when they worked with Youlou Mabiala. Josky, Mayaula and Youlou got into a group MAMAKI getting some great song. I am so happy that they worked together.

But Madilu and Mayaula Mayoni played together. Madilu would sing in two Mayaula Mayoni songs and he would also sing with Mayoni as well. They would sing together in Madilu's classic song Voisin. Voisin starts with Madilu, Nyboma, Aime Kiwakana, and Mayaula Mayoni then Pompom Kuleta joins the chorus with Mayoni, Aime and Nyboma when Madilu sings solo. I mean Madilu said Mayoni's name twice. That says it all.

This is why I say that Josky , Madilu and Mayoni would have been a great trio. They would have given great class to the Congolese Music Scene. Josky would the commander with Madilu and Mayaula Mayoni as his followers.

I wish Franco and Mayaula Mayoni made few songs of them singing together

Franco

Mayaula Mayoni

I never even wanted to consider because I really Franco and Mayaula Mayoni as guitarists especially Mayaula Mayoni. Mayaula Mayoni, I wanted to focus on his songs and his guitar. He was an incredible rhythmist but he was also good with Mi-Solo guitar. Not like Franco, but he was pretty good.

Then I listened to the songs realizing that I am listening to Mayaula Mayoni either in the background (which was usually the case) or lead concerning vocals. I used to not make much of it until I listened to the Bikini album. His vocals were the best. What is weird that Mayoni's voice got better as he got old. I wish Mayoni had sang more in his last album Bikini. His voice was really good.

What song that got me with his voice was a song that Tshala Muana sang. Nasi Nabali which Mayoni composed. In fact it was the songs that Mayoni sang with Tshala Muana, I began to appreciate the voice of Mayaula Mayoni.

Mayaula Mayoni sang with some others. Think of Carlyto Lassa, Pembe Sheiro, Abby Suriya, Luciana, Aime Kikwana, Sam Mangwana, and of course his lookalike Madilu System. I love that Madilu and Mayaula sang together on the second take of Bon Anniversaire. Their voices were so damn similar that I could not tell who was Mayoni and who was Madilu. Heck they look like brothers. I am surprised that they are not cousins.

I think if Mayaula could sing with Madilu, he could have sang with Franco. He was capable to doing some medium high notes with Franco himself. The best case of them together is that Mayoni himself always preferred to sing in the background rather than sing lead. Since Franco had a strong voice, he could use his low notes with Mayaula's high notes into a song.

Let me show the songs that Franco and Mayaula Mayoni would be into beautiful songs.
Here is from Franco
Now from Mayaula Mayoni

Hear those four songs, tell me whether you could see Franco and Mayaula Mayoni singing together.

Dream Duet: Mayaula Mayoni and Pepe Kalle

I have no idea how producers could not have find a collaboration between these men. They would have been perfect in a sense. I mean these two men.

Mayaula Mayoni a former soccer player and former Bella Bella associate Pepe Kalle together.

First of all, Mayoni kept saying "Empireeeeooo"
Why does Mayoni keep saying. Just saying this out of nowhere. I think he was giving tribute to Empire Bakuba for their music that they gave us. It was on Mayaula Mayoni's album Bikini which was released in 2000 which could be 1999 or 2001, I don't know exactly when. Mayoni's music in some ways came more Bakuba like in some ways starting the mid 1980s.

Another reason is that they happen to have two singers that they worked with.
Carlyto Lassa and Malage de Lugendo

Since these two singers are the ones that they sang with, I wonder how producers or Mayaula himself not find a way to include Pepe Kalle in it. Because Pepe Kalle's voices molds well with Malage and Carlyto. It can be proven on Simaro's 1989 album "Pepe Kalle chante Simaro" which I did my own post about.

Pepe Kalle chante Simaro

In addition, I believe Mayaula and Pepe would meld together just like Pepe did with his idol Tabu Ley Rochereau. Believe they sounded very similar. But Mayaula Mayoni sounds more like much more masculine with his voice. Pepe Kalle was very capable of reaching medium high notes. Mayaula can remain taking more lower notes which he usually does best I guess. Better, if you wanted a great Soukous song, you can have Mayaula Mayoni sing the song and then have animations of Pepe Kalle. Pepe Kalle was the man of animations which is why I call him the King of Soukous. Period.

Those things are reason why a Mayaula Mayoni and Pepe Kalle duet should have happened.
