Dream Duet: Defao and Franco

Hello everyone. We have a Franco special duet edition only. We will have two people under this great edition of the biggest legend in Congolese Music. These men come from the Zaiko generation. I have found two people that I think would have given Franco a great time. First individual came from Grand Zaiko of Pepe Felly who was a big Franco fan. He also went to sing with Choc Stars for some significant time before shining on his own. He has a similar voice to Pepe Kalle who he would sing with at one point before he would leave and form his own band.

I am speaking of General Defao. He is making new music and he is already promoting some new songs with some notable great individuals. Those who don't know, Defao was good with soukous songs as well as generiques. His generiques were on top during the late 1990s.

Defao and Franco would have been a good duo because Defao sounds similar to Pepe Kalle. Since Franco sang with Madilu who many say sound similar to Pepe Kalle, Franco would have better chemistry with a singer like Defao. Though Defao is second voice, he can sing high to some degree and he was very effective during the 1980s when he was with the Choc Stars. But also Defao can sing low very effectively which he did with Carlyto and Debaba. Franco would find more musical flexibility not only song style but singing wise as well. Like if Franco wanted a fast paced song, Defao would perfect to help Franco in the singing of this affair. Also Defao would have benefited of singing with Franco in a slow ballad song.

Two songs that would have benefited Defao and Franco.

Slow song is Bella Bella's song by Tonton Ricos
MARCELUI

Fast song is Choc Stars' song by Monza Premier
EVE

Why those two songs in fact. Because it would have shown the good emotional musical connection between Defao and Franco since they knew how to reach people's hearts. Marcelui would be where Franco can sing high but his own way as well as Defao showing his lower range. On the song Eve, Franco and Defao would have had a better harmony as well as Franco improving the song Eve. Monza was good but Franco would have made this song a bit better.

Defao and Franco would have been a entertaining duo in my opinion. This is the first part series of Franco in the dream duet edition.

Dream Duet: Abby Suriya and Mpongo Love

This is women's history month and I want to focus on Congolese women singers that they have yet to sing together or the ones that should have sung together. I got two Congolese ladies that I selected for you guys for today.

The subjects today are Abby Suriya and the late Mpongo Love. The latter is mother to Sandra Mpongo who is also a singer herself. I actually think if Mpongo had lived longer, I believed that she would have sung with a woman like Abby Suriya. That would have the good idea of them singing together. These two female singers are like opposites attract but it is perfect for us. Abby Suriya is a romantic singer but more expressive in her tone. Mpongo Love is also a romantic singer but softer in her tone. This would be a great musical match. Mpongo's voice a female version of Ntesa in a sense where her voice is very jolly. Abby Suriya's voice is a female version of combinations of Shimita, Solo Sita and Carlyto whom she sang with in the past.

One reason that they would have and should have sung together would because they both worked with former soccer legend Mayaula Mayoni. They had the luxuries to work with him. Abby appeared on Mayaula Mayoni's Ousmane Bakyoko and Bikini. Mpongo got her name going on Mayoni's song Ndaya which she sang with saxophonist Empompo Loway.

Speaking on Ndaya. That would be one of the songs that would have been perfect for Abby Suriya and Mpongo Love. Mpongo singing high with Abby singing low. There is another song that would have been perfect. It is also from Mayaula Mayoni. The song he did for Tshala Muana. It is called Nasi Mobali.

Here is the songs

NDAYA

NASI NABALI

If they had sung together, it would have good for Congolese music fans who love female singers more.

Second and final series of Congolese women in Dream Duets.

Dream Trio: Abby Surya, Koffi Olomide, Youlou Mabiala

I just got the album of Maika Munan's album African Swinger. I have listened to the whole album and I actually loved it a lot.

There is one particular song that I love dearly. That is Makaramba which had Abby Suriya, Tshala Muana (in the animations), Koffi Olomide and Carlyto Lassa.

But I feel the song would have been better if it had one person instead of Carlyto. I mean Carlyto is great but one person would have made it more perfect.

I mean Youlou Mabiala which goes into this post.

Abby Suriya, Koffi Olomide and Youlou Mabiala.

These three people would have been perfect into the song Makaramba of Maika Munan.

I know that Abby Suriya would have been perfect together with her vocals while you would have had a more fire into song with vocals of Koffi and Youlou. Youlou would have made Koffi work a little harder with his vocals. But the animations would have been with Tshala Muana and Carlyto of course.

That is how I would have wanted the Makaramba to be arranged.

Imagine a trio of vocals from Abby Suriya, Koffi Olomide and Youlou Mabiala with animations of Carlyto and Tshala Muana.

I wish Franco and Mayaula Mayoni made few songs of them singing together

Franco

Mayaula Mayoni

I never even wanted to consider because I really Franco and Mayaula Mayoni as guitarists especially Mayaula Mayoni. Mayaula Mayoni, I wanted to focus on his songs and his guitar. He was an incredible rhythmist but he was also good with Mi-Solo guitar. Not like Franco, but he was pretty good.

Then I listened to the songs realizing that I am listening to Mayaula Mayoni either in the background (which was usually the case) or lead concerning vocals. I used to not make much of it until I listened to the Bikini album. His vocals were the best. What is weird that Mayoni's voice got better as he got old. I wish Mayoni had sang more in his last album Bikini. His voice was really good.

What song that got me with his voice was a song that Tshala Muana sang. Nasi Nabali which Mayoni composed. In fact it was the songs that Mayoni sang with Tshala Muana, I began to appreciate the voice of Mayaula Mayoni.

Mayaula Mayoni sang with some others. Think of Carlyto Lassa, Pembe Sheiro, Abby Suriya, Luciana, Aime Kikwana, Sam Mangwana, and of course his lookalike Madilu System. I love that Madilu and Mayaula sang together on the second take of Bon Anniversaire. Their voices were so damn similar that I could not tell who was Mayoni and who was Madilu. Heck they look like brothers. I am surprised that they are not cousins.

I think if Mayaula could sing with Madilu, he could have sang with Franco. He was capable to doing some medium high notes with Franco himself. The best case of them together is that Mayoni himself always preferred to sing in the background rather than sing lead. Since Franco had a strong voice, he could use his low notes with Mayaula's high notes into a song.

Let me show the songs that Franco and Mayaula Mayoni would be into beautiful songs.
Here is from Franco
Now from Mayaula Mayoni

Hear those four songs, tell me whether you could see Franco and Mayaula Mayoni singing together.

Dream Duet: Mayaula Mayoni and Pepe Kalle

I have no idea how producers could not have find a collaboration between these men. They would have been perfect in a sense. I mean these two men.

Mayaula Mayoni a former soccer player and former Bella Bella associate Pepe Kalle together.

First of all, Mayoni kept saying "Empireeeeooo"
Why does Mayoni keep saying. Just saying this out of nowhere. I think he was giving tribute to Empire Bakuba for their music that they gave us. It was on Mayaula Mayoni's album Bikini which was released in 2000 which could be 1999 or 2001, I don't know exactly when. Mayoni's music in some ways came more Bakuba like in some ways starting the mid 1980s.

Another reason is that they happen to have two singers that they worked with.
Carlyto Lassa and Malage de Lugendo.

Since these two singers are the ones that they sang with, I wonder how producers or Mayaula himself not find a way to include Pepe Kalle in it. Because Pepe Kalle's voices molds well with Malage and Carlyto. It can be proven on Simaro's 1989 album "Pepe Kalle chante Simaro" which I did my own post about.
Link here
Pepe Kalle chante Simaro

In addition, I believe Mayaula and Pepe would meld together just like Pepe did with his idol Tabu Ley Rochereau. Believe they sounded very similar. But Mayaula Mayoni sounds more like much more masculine with his voice. Pepe Kalle was very capable of reaching medium high notes. Mayaula can remain taking more lower notes which he usually does best I guess. Better, if you wanted a great Soukous song, you can have Mayaula Mayoni sing the song and then have animations of Pepe Kalle. Pepe Kalle was the man of animations which is why I call him the King of Soukous. Period.

Those things are reason why a Mayaula Mayoni and Pepe Kalle duet should have happened.

Lutumba Simaro: Pepe Kalle chante La Poete Simaro Massiya

Hello everyone, I am so happy to give a overlook on a LP that I have loved a lot since I was a teenager. Now as a young adult, I am grateful to still appreciate music like this.

As some of your older rumba fans or rhumba fans as called by others, you are aware that now Lutumba Simaro is no longer is doing music mentioned in this post
http://francopepekalleclassicambiance.blogspot.com/2015/04/reflection-poet-lutumba-simaro.html
Simaro Retires

I know will speak somewhat of the great 1989 lp of Simaro Lutumba or some call him Simaro Massiya. The lp is simply called "Pepe Kalle chante La Poete Simaro Massiya". This is a Lp for Simaro Lutumba to do another nzingzong. It would his second after doing back in 1984 with the song Maya. At this time, Franco was not well and OK Jazz was going downhill. So some OKJ musicians decided to some solo projects. Simaro was one of them.

This LP is so classic. All these four songs have a important message. About love and about how to avoid trouble. Like for example, Mukelenge, you can see Pepe Kalle sing as a woman who is telling her man to keep himself under control and make sure he is well health wise and body wise. The song kind of goes into that direction. Muana Ndeke is a song where he is singing a figurative song about a Child of a Bird. But it means that it represents the issues around the life such as people, marriages, and workers.

My favorite song out of all this classic LP is the Diarrhée Verbale which literally means Verbal Diarrhea. NO it is not about the body but about the mouth. It is a reference to how much Kinshasa people love to gossip and talk shit about other people. Also, why it is a problem for Zairian people. As at the time Democratic Republic of Congo was referred Zaire or more accurately Republic of Zaire. Oh this where Pepe Kalle delivered the best. No wonder I am a Pepe Kalle fanatic today.

But we get into the remake of "Coeur Artificiel" which meant Artificial Heart. But this version of the same song is called Motema Libanga which it means in this context a Cold Heart. Kind of the same affect. Someone being cold blooded. The original song was sung by Madilu System. But in the remix it was sang by Carlyto Lassa and Pepe Kalle. Carlyto did a good job singing it but I kind of wish that Madilu had sang the remix in a sense or it should have been Pepe Kalle in this case in my opinion but then again, maybe Simaro wanted someone completely different from Madilu. So Carlyto make sense. Plus his voice is so juicy and I love juicy voices.

Excellent album if you ask me. I want everyone to get this work. It is everywhere. Excellent work from Simaro.

Choc Stars- POT COSSE

I have to be honest and be very honest as a male specie. I feel that this song is probably the most raunchy smokin Congolese love songs that I have ever seen in my whole life.

I am speaking about the record by Choc Stars which is a big love song. The song is called POT COSSE. The song was released in 1986 or 1987 period.

This song makes me rethink about my "male" desires as I love so many hot women around my area of life and as I become obessed with wanting that hot women to stand out. There are so many sexy women around my neighborhood and my area where I live. There are too many hot white girls that all of them are smokin mamas and you got some fine black women with hot asians as well as the very hot mixed girls especially those who are mixed mexican or mixed black. YUMMY. I just cannot get enough of women I suppose. I just one woman to be my honey and I desperate to just spend one romantic time with a sexy minded woman.

My rant sorts matches the narrative of the song. This song was composed by Roxy Tshimpaka. The one who sings this song is Carlyto Lassa. His voice sounds very sexy as he wants to share his desire to be with that WOMAN. He speaks about how he wants a woman who loves him as much as he loves her and does not want to be cheated. He wants that woman to feel that he is loved and that he will always be treated well.

It is a beautiful love song and I want more people to hear this song. It is sexy and it is very poetic in my view. I love this song so much. I cannot get enough of it. It is one of the most beautiful love songs I have seen for some time.
